Breaking new ground – for the benefit of the patient
Overcoming boundaries—between sciences, disciplines, and discourses: this is one of the challenges in oncology today. Only in this way can innovative forms of therapy emerge. Immunotherapy is a good example of how interdisciplinary collaboration has led to new treatment methods.
In recent decades, the field of tumor immunology has been the subject of intensive research worldwide. The Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded in 2011 and 2018 for discoveries in immuno-oncology, demonstrating the outstanding importance of this discipline.
Since 1985, our physicians and scientists at the Immun-Onkologisches Zentrum Köln (IOZK) have been studying the role of the immune system in cancer and chronic infectious diseases.
As part of this process, we developed IOZK immunotherapy. Our experience with this therapy shows us that we are on the right track: this treatment method allows us to offer our patients a customized therapy that offers good prospects for gentle treatment and the highest possible quality of life.
From the outset, we have been convinced by the multifaceted qualities of immunotherapy. It aims to strengthen and activate the patient's own immune system in the fight against cancer. In the best-case scenario, it provides long-term protection against new cancer cells.
In contrast, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy aim to destroy the tumor through surgery or medication—often with serious side effects for healthy cells and the immune system.
We are striving to further develop IOZK immunotherapy in line with the latest findings in immuno-oncology. We can already offer this treatment to tumor patients today—even though it is not yet a standard treatment.
As an individual treatment method, IOZK immunotherapy is particularly appealing to people who want to actively participate in their own healing process.
The vision of a natural and sustainably protective cancer treatment is what motivates us every day.
