Breaking new ground - for the benefit of the patient
Overcoming boundaries - between the sciences, specialist disciplines and discourses: this is one of the challenges in oncology today. This is the only way to develop innovative forms of therapy. Immunotherapy is a good example of how interdisciplinary collaboration has led to new treatment methods.
In recent decades, the field of tumor immunology has been intensively researched worldwide. The Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded in 2011 and 2018 for immuno-oncological findings, which demonstrates the outstanding importance of this discipline.
Our doctors and scientists at the Immuno-Oncology Center in Cologne (IOZK) have been studying the role of the immune system in cancer and chronic infectious diseases since 1985.
We have developed the IOZK immunotherapy as part of this process. Our experience with it shows us that we are on the right path: With this treatment method, we can offer our patients a customized therapy that offers good prospects for gentle treatment and the highest possible quality of life.
Right from the start, we were convinced by the multi-layered qualities of immunotherapy. It aims to strengthen and activate the patient's own immune system in the fight against cancer. Ideally, it provides long-term protection against newly growing cancer cells.
In contrast, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy aim to destroy the tumor through surgery or medication - often with severe side effects for healthy cells and the immune system.
We are endeavoring to further develop IOZK immunotherapy in line with the latest immuno-oncological findings. We can already make this available to tumor patients today - even if it is not yet a standard of care.
As an individual treatment method, IOZK immunotherapy is particularly appealing to people who want to actively participate in their own healing.
The vision of a natural and sustainably protective cancer treatment is what motivates us every day.
