Therapy Costs

The costs for the treatment depend on the complexity of the individual vaccine production and the progression of the disease. The laboratory and production costs for a course of treatment amount to approximately €55,000. The high costs are due to the complex technical procedures: a personalized treatment is produced under strict regulatory conditions for each patient individually. Depending on the terms of your health insurance, some private health insurances or (German) employer’s liability insurance associations contribute towards the costs.

German statutory health insurances can cover the costs in individual cases when applied for, e.g., in cases of hardship when no further approved treatments are available. The costs that the German statutory health insurances cover is regulated by law. These regulations have to pass through many bureaucratic processes. This can take a long time due to the many parties involved and the sometimes conflicting interests (e.g., funding agencies and the pharmaceutical industry). If the costs for a treatment are not covered by the German statutory health insurance, this does not mean that it is not effective or scientifically proven, but that the relevant authorities have not assessed it yet. Experience shows that the statutory health insurances usually have to be taken to court to get reimbursement for the costs.
