Tumor immunologist specializing in brain tumors
Stefan Van Gool, M.D., Ph.D., is a specialist in pediatric hematology-oncology with a focus on brain tumors.
From 2001 to 2004, he was director of clinical research at the Flanders Fund for Scientific Research. Between 2006 and 2016, he was a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven. From 2012 to 2015, he was director of the Laboratory of Pediatric Immunology.
He is the author of nearly 200 scientific articles published in international scientific journals.
In recognition of his scientific achievements, he received the following awards:
- 1995 Schweißguth Prize from the International Society of Pediatric Oncology
- 1996 Nycomed Prize from the International Society of Pediatric Oncology
- 1998 Cancer Research Prize from the Rik en Nel Wouters Foundation (with Ludwig Van den Hove)
From 2005 to 2009, he served as coordinator of the European Expert Group on High-Grade Glioma
Since 2008, he has been a member of the High Health Council in Belgium
From 2014 to 2017, he served as co-chair of the Brain Tumors Working Group of the European Society for Paediatric Oncology.
At the IOZK, he serves as the physician in charge of neuro-oncology. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, he is the qualified person (GMP).
