Coordination of Private Transportation After Surgery

Dear Patient,

Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to secure your tumor sample and arrange for its transport to the IOZK.

This is about you. You are the key player in our joint effort. You decide on your treatment and how your tumor tissue will be used! Stay in control so that everything goes smoothly.

Important Information on the Collection, Storage, and Transport of Tumor Tissue

Transportation will be handled by your designated representative. She will deliver a transport box provided by the IOZK to the agreed-upon drop-off location no later than one hour before the scheduled surgery time. The box contains a plastic container for the tumor, gloves, and a spatula.

After the surgery, the transport box will be picked up by the designated person and delivered to the IOZK.

Discuss all the details regarding delivery and pickup of the transport crate with your trusted contact.

The surgeon must immediately after removal place the tumor material in a sterile plastic container labeled with the patient's name and date of birth
and immediately freeze it at –20 to –80°C or store it in the transport box with dry ice.
Caution: Dry ice damages skin and tissue!
For protection, the surgeon should use the gloves and spatula provided.

No liquids, such as formalin or DMSO

Storage in a sterile container
