Coordination of Private Transportation After Surgery

Important Information on the Collection, Storage, and Transport of Tumor Tissue

Your designated representative will handle the transport. She will deliver a transport box to the agreed-upon location no later than one hour before the surgery. The box will contain a plastic container for the tumor, gloves, and a spatula.

After the surgery, the transport box will be picked up by the designated person and delivered to the IOZK.

Discuss all the details regarding delivery and pickup of the transport crate with your trusted contact.

Enter the name and phone number of the designated contact person on the form: "Surgeon Information Sheet"

The surgeon must immediately after removal place the tumor material in a sterile plastic container labeled with the patient's name and date of birth
and immediately freeze it at –20 to –80°C or store it in the transport box with dry ice.
Caution: Dry ice damages skin and tissue!
For protection, the surgeon should use the gloves and spatula provided.

No liquids, such as formalin or DMSO

The surgeon will hand the transport box, still in its cardboard outer packaging, along with the completed and signed forms, to your designated representative.

4. Handing the documents over to the surgeon

5. Coordinating the transport with the surgeon

When you call, we'll schedule the pickup for that day and prepare a transport kit for your designated representative to pick up.

2. Fill out the consent form

Please sign the consent form. By signing, you authorize the surgeon to send your tumor specimen to the IOZK.

The form remains with the surgeon.

3. Consultation with the Surgeon

The preoperative consultation with your surgeon usually takes place the evening before the surgery. Once you have read this information, you will be able to clearly explain the procedure for transporting the tumor to the surgeon following the consultation.
Explain to the surgeon just how important his cooperation is to you!

Please inform the surgeon that you would like a portion of the tumor tissue (as much as possible, at least 1.5 cm³, viable tissue) to be provided to the IOZK for the production of a dendritic cell vaccine.

Since this involves the manufacture of pharmaceuticals under regulatory oversight in accordance with GMP, it is of the utmost importance that the tumor material be standardized and shipped exclusively in accordance with IOZK guidelines.
