Information on the Storage of Tumor Tissue

The tumor tissue provided to us by you or by the treating medical facility can be stored at our institute for up to one year.

After this period expires, it is possible to extend storage on an annual basis. Storage may only be extended with the patient’s written consent, and this entails a fee of €357 per year.

It should be noted that the quality and suitability of biological tumor material for certain tests may be compromised during prolonged storage. Furthermore, the stored tumor material reflects the biological state of the tumor at the time of the original biopsy. The tumor in the patient’s body may change as the disease progresses, so the stored material may no longer reflect the tumor’s current status.

If the patient does not wish to extend the storage period, he or she must sign a request for the destruction of the stored tumor tissue. Upon receipt of this request, the tissue will be properly destroyed in accordance with applicable medical and legal requirements.
