Infectiology is an interdisciplinary science that investigates infectious diseases and their treatment. Important infectious diseases are among others pneumonia, infectious diarrhoea, meningitis, Malaria, Hepatitis or AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

As specialized medical practice we provide comprehensive treatment for patients suffering from hepatitis or HIV-infection. Our highly qualified team of experts has extensive experience in this field and continiously participates in further training and education. Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Volker Schirrmacher is the scientific director of our team. We have the accreditation to work with HIV in our clean-room laboratory.

HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy), the standard treatment of HIV-infection, is based on a combination of drugs with antiviral effects. It aims at most effective treatment with a minimum of side effects. The selection and combination of medicaments depends on their respective effectivity and the individual requirements of the patient. Therapeutic effects can be monitored by analysis of immunologic parameters, virusload and drug resistance.
